The summer of 2000 in Waukegan , Il. , my now husband
and I were dropping off a family member after work at about midnight. We all
worked 2nd shift at a warehouse and carpooled home. The area where my cousin
lives is not a wooded area but there is a huge soccer park across the street
where there used to be a grade school years ago. We arrived at his home at
about midnight and dropped him off in his driveway and watched him go up to
the door. Now, the night was clear, very clear because I remember commenting
on how pretty the stars were and how blue the sky was at the time. As we
pulled away we looked toward the park and noticed it was extremely dark. The
park itself is on an incline so you can only see very little unless you drive
up the hill next to it.
At the intersection we did not have a stop sign and as
we were halfway through we heard growling and footsteps like a dog's toenails
on pavement. Well we were looking in the direction they were coming from but
saw nothing! When we reached the center of the intersection we could hear
breathing outside my husband's window, really heavy breathing like this thing
was charging the car! I started yelling for him to drive faster but I think he
was in shock because he just kept looking towards the park.
I don't know what he saw but he was pale.
Finally he snapped out of it and
floored it and all the while you could hear this "animal" running alongside
the car growling and breathing really hard while we
were going at least 50mph! This thing kept pace for about four blocks and when
we turned around that's when we saw it. It was all black and huge like a wolf
but massive in stature and it had red glowing eyes.
When I read the stories on your site about skinwalkers I
noticed that most happened in rural areas or a desert setting in the western
states such as Arizona where there is alot of spirit energy from the Indian
tribes and such. This happened to us in a very populated city atmosphere
in northern Illinois. Waukegan is about 45 minutes from Chicago and that's
with traffic! I asked my cousin if there were any big dogs in the neighborhood
and he said no and I believe him because he was born in that house and has
lived there for over 40 years he pretty much knows the neighborhood. Until
this day everytime I pass the park I look to see if it's there on the hill, it
has never returned.
