SPECIAL MENTION 8

My Brother

I think I can tell you my story now without breaking down, so here goes:

I had a dream in the early morning hours of March 28, 2003. I was at my work with the owners of the company, Steve & Marc. Steve was trying to talk to me, he put his hand on his chest & said, "I can't...I can't..." Then he started falling toward me & I tried to catch him. I hollered at Marc to call 911. That's all I remember of the dream.

I was on my way to work later that morning when the dream came back to me. I remember saying to myself, out loud, "Someone is going to die today." I didn't think anymore about the dream until later that night.

Sometime between 8:30 & 9:00 pm the same day, I was sitting in my kitchen reading. I thought I heard someone come in the house thru' our game room door & drop a backpack. I sat there for a second or two & finally, when no one came thru' the house, I got up to investigate. The game room is now my oldest son's room, so I thought it might be him or one of his friends. It is located just off the kitchen. As I approached the door to my son's room, I started to feel very nervous. Besides my two dogs, I was the only one in the house. For whatever reason, I couldn't make myself go into that room. It was dark in there & just did not feel right.

I walked back to the kitchen & then the dogs started going nuts! My back door was open to allow a breeze to come in & they ran outside & were barking at something on the side of the house, the side of the house that my son's room is on. My big dog's hair was standing up on his shoulders, so I knew they meant business. I walked outside to see if I could see or hear anything. I didn't see or hear anything.

I grabbed a flash light & went out the front door with my big dog. At first, he didn't want to move from the front door. I finally coaxed him to my son's door, but he wasn't going any further than that! I checked the door to see if it was locked & it was. I slowly moved to the side of the house. I did hear something, but I'm still not sure it wasn't a cat or some other animal.

I went back into the house & it probably took 20 minutes or so for me to calm down & continue to read.

At about 11:00 pm, I received a phone call from my sister that lives in Austin. She had just received a call from her mother-in-law. Her mother-in-law had just received a phone call from a hospital wanting to know if our brother lived at her address. She was then told he was in a car accident & which hospital he was in.

I located the hospital & asked my brother's condition. I was told it was critical. I told the lady I was talking to I was on my way & what did I need to do when I got there. She told me to come to the Emergency Room & ask for Bonnie.

After that, I lost all track of time. Before we got to the hospital, I remembered the dream I had that morning. In my heart, at that moment, I knew my brother was gone. But I continued to pray to God that he would come out of this OK.

We got to the hospital & found Bonnie & she took us to a waiting room & proceeded to tell us what she knew. She went to find one of the doctors that worked on him. We waited maybe 5 or 10 minutes for the doctor to come in. She introduced herself, sat down & told me he didn't make it. Of course, I totally lost it then. At one point, I remember hearing myself say, "I can't...I can't..." I was trying to say, "I can't believe it.", but just couldn't finish my sentence. I thought of the dream again.

I was the next day before I realized something about the dream & real life. I had said to myself the morning of the dream that someone was going to die. One of my bosses' names is Steve. My brother's name is Stephen or for short, Steve. This was the kicker for me - my boss, Steve's wife's name is...you guessed it, Bonnie.

Details: Friday, March 28, 2003, my brother, Stephen, was killed because of a car accident. The accident occurred about 8:30 pm; he later died at 11:52 pm. He was driving his beloved Ford Mustang - fast - & tried to pass a slower moving vehicle. At this point, we believe he lost control & slid into oncoming traffic. He was hit on the driver's side by a Toyota Tacoma truck.

I believe that my brother came to me after the accident. He was unconscious when the emergency vehicles arrived & never regained consciousness.

I love you & miss you, Stephen. There are more that angels watching over me. I believe.

-Sandra.
